Watercolour coastal scenes – stage by stage projects.

We have some amazing coast line on the north east coast which has inspires generations of artists to pick up a brush. Jason , your tutor, has painted most of the local recognised beauty spots and has always enjoyed the process. On this course he will be sharing his valuable knowledge as how to best capture the essence of each location taking you through each watercolour step by step , from initial planning of the composition through to those all important final touches.

Whether you want to make moody views in the romantic tradition

Or render a scene with the minimum of fuss, Jason has stage by stage projects planned that cover various approaches to watercolour painting.

This course will expand your understanding of traditional watercolour painting methods and help you see how to plan and layer up your work more effectively.

What will you do on the course ?

  • On the course you will be taken through a series of coastal scenes which will help you do the follwing
  • Discuss reference choice …. the potencial pitfalls of some images
  • How to effectively lead the viewers eye along the beach in your artwork to the main focal points
  • How to plan and render your sky so that it enhances the pictures composition and frames the main feature of the image.
  • Exploring ways to render small figures, seaweed, sand dunes, rocks and water and waves
  • Begin to make your own art using some of the ideas shown

What do you need to bring ?

You will need to bring your usual watercolour painting kit, that you use at home, to class. In addition to this you will need to bring several sheets of watercolour paper to work on plus some drawing paper and a pencil.
