Get started with portrait painting – Gouache or water soluble oils

Portrait painting is easy to do using the following two mediums – gouache or oils. This is because you can plan your colour mixing, pre mixing a variety of tones and colours, which you can then use when you need them. You can make corrections easily, wiping away areas and then re-paint them.

On this course we will look at the basics of classical painting methods which are the tried and tested approach to portrait and figure work. You will be taken through a portrait, stage by stage, so that you understand how to layer up your picture.

By the end of the course you will have created a gouache or an oil painting that captures a likeness.
