Why does Jason think this course would be of value to you as a painter ?

Flower painting is an area of painting where you can truly let rip with clean, bright, vibrant colours. Couple this with flowing, gestural mark making and soon flower painting can be a liberating, expressive experience. Flower painting also offers rich oportunities to explore different kinds of compositions as well as blending realism with abstraction. It is, in short, one of the most exciting and inventive areas of watercolour painting today.

What will you do on the course ?

  • Look at how to handle the brush to make shapes that reflect flower forms
  • Examine how other artists have rendered flowers – what can we learn from it ?
  • Explore dissolving forms while still retaining the overall feel of the plant.
  • Ideas for making backgrounds
  • Using masking fluid to stop out whites.
  • Breaking down an image into logical layers
  • Create finished flower painting exercises
  • Create your own finished flower painting

What do you need to bring ?

Please bring your usual watercolour painting kit to the first class, plus a misting water spray bottle and a kitchen J-cloth. Please note that you will need to bring a drawing board and water pots as these are not provided at the centre.
